New nails with a little story…

I got my nails done this  morning to reward myself from completing a couple of my assessments and relax a little. For the past week, I’ve had minimal hours of sleep and have spent hours and hours infront of the university computer working my way through statistics, researching on different assessment topics and referencing articles.

I hate referencing articles in essays!

They are the absolute hardest things to do but one of the most important!

Only recently, a couple of my friends received a mark of zero because they hadn’t referenced their essay properly and it was considered “copy and paste”d. It’s such a horrible marking system!

Anyway, like I said, got my nails done… and have a little adventourous story to tell.

Ready for my long, angry rant?

Ok, and so I arrived at this “nail salon” – which will remain un-named with a friend of mine (lets call her G), and sat down to get our nails done. Before I sat down on the seat though, I waned to ensure that there were two nail technicians around so that I wouldn’t be waiting hours in the salon as both of us wanted to do get Gel Extensions with 3d nail art – typically, for one person, this would take about 1.5 to 2 hours to complete.  Anyway, so I asked, and a particular girl said “yes, we have two, that’s fine”.

And so I sat down, and waited, and a nail technician came along, G – being the extremely friendly friend she is, asked the nail tech to do my nails first (implying, she’ll wait for the other woman). The nail tech started to work on my nails, asking what I wanted, etc and got started. Meanwhile, me and G were flipping through the nail design books choosing for nail arts. As it was such a small salon, it was a half hairdresser + half nail salon and so there was only a three little tables for the nail equipment, I continously picked out designs and asked if she was able to do them.

yes yes“, she replied.

ok now, you might want to keep that answer in mind.

I’m not one of those “i’m super picky customers”, I just like things done the way I like it. I don’t go to a restaurant and specifically ask for no spring onions (lets just say I didn’t like them), I’ll just simply pick them out! But since it was my nails and I know much more about nail art (I could also do it myself, but I just can’t be bothered and its too much of a hassle to do my other hand), I was just a little more picky about the things she did.

So firstly, she started to file my nails down and I acknowledge that to prepare for gel nails, you must file your real nails down, so I asked her if she could file less, as my nails were a little sensitive and I didn’t like them too thin. So she agreed. Okay, that bit was fine. She did as I asked.

Then I pointed to the design I wanted. Basically, all I wanted was, as you could see in the picture, the base design of the different coloured corners (which she already did wrong because in the nail art book it was alternating corners on each finger, but that’s fine. I didn’t even mention that to her). And then she went on to do what was under the colourful tips – the “leopard design”. Honestly, when she started, I immediately noticed shes never draw leopard prints on her customer’s nails before. She did a trial on one finger before she continued on the rest.. and I’m not just assuming she doesn’t know how to draw leopard print. May I ask you to quickly scroll up and double check to see whether you really see anything that even looks like leopard prints at all?????

Trust me, it was horrible. I’ve drawn leopard prints on my own nails and it was 1000000x better. I’m not even saying I was that great, but I was that much better than her, and I am not even close to being a qualified nail art technician.

Anyway, let’s go on. I didn’t mention anything – rather, I just kept giving G really disgusted looks. Even she was rolling her eyes by that time. Next, she asked what I wanted ontop, I pointed so a particular design with arcylic hearts and bows and told her thats what I want it to be like. She asked what colour, and I said pink, oh and white.

She started speaking in Vietnamese in a woman who was just sitting next to her (possibly a visiting friend during work hours???) Oh, and before I even start, I’m going to make this clear. I am not aganist anyone who is Vietnamese, nor am I criticising any other nail artists out there reading this.

And so she started drawing the hearts on my fingers with half of a heart pink and the other half white???? wtf. Okay, maybe I had worded it wrong and she misunderstood… so I quickily said “oh, I meant some hearts can be white, and some can be pink”. She apologised, fixed it up and started mumbling in Vietnamese again.

Oh, and btw, can any one see hearts in my nail art design? Beause all I see.. are blobs of arcylic all over my nails. *Rolls eyes. When she was drawing the hearts, she was so careless about them, and some honestly turned out like a lump of nothing.. when she finished one hand, she asked me “is it ok??”

How do you want me to answer you??? I want you to remove them all and do it again??? Because I honestly wanted to. But all that came out was *points to a particular finger “Could you fix that heart?” Then you start to hear Vietnamese mumbling again. Wtf. Then, she fixed that one heart.. and decided, to forget about the fact that I had requested for a particular design. She chose to just simply draw lumps on my nails and get away with it. Okay, bitch, you’re lucky I’m super not-in-the-mood to ask you to do any better, and also cause I doubted her ability to do any better.

Next, she started to swap some glitter nail around the hearts, and it made the whole design – not that it was that great in the first place – but she made the whole design look like the biggest mess. It looked like split nail polish on my nails. I was disgusted that I stopped her immediately and asked her to just dab the glitter on-top  of the arcylics rather than around. Must a nail artist be so “uncreative”?????

And ofcourse, what else could have happened? She starts speaking Vietnamese once again to the woman with a very “unhappy” look on her face. And then after a couple of light swipes of glitter, she saids Okay, I’ll do your friend now. I was totally unsatisfied and have never been so unsatisfied – ever, at a nail salon.

I then suggested, very nicely, “Is it possible that I borrow your nail polish and paint it myself whilst you do my friend’s nails?” Surprised, she looked at me and said “Do it yourself???” I nodded, and she said ok.. and started to speak Vietnamese to her friend – who just completely stared at my nails for the next half an hour.

I had had enough. Fuming, I started to bullshxt stories to G. I started rambling on about how I was to visit my grandparents in Vietnam this summer holidays and told her I’d take her around Vietnam one day and asked her about China (which she’s from) and luckily she picked it up immediately and bullshxted along with me trying to make it very obvious that I was Vietnamese and that I understood what they were saying, even though I had absolutely no clue cause I don’t know a word in the Vietnamese language.

Obviously having heard it, they stopped talking for half an hour.. but I had not had enough! They were completely rude, and their service was just horrible! I then showed G my completed “polished” and “glittered” form of the nail art and asked her if it looked good. G, excitingly replied “YESSS, I really like it. Looks alot better.” So the nail technician looked across and asked if she could have a look. I showed her and she nodded and said it looked good. I then continued to take out my camera and show her other nail art designs I had done myself and then continued to bullshxt and claim that my parents actually own a nail salon. I told her that I only came with G cause we had just finished assessments and I had no time to go down to my parent’s salon. I told them that I also do 3d nail art design at the shop and that I occasionally work there.

She then tried to sus me out by asking where it was located, and specifically told me that she only lived a suburb away from the nail salon! She then asked if my dad also worked at the salon, and being the biggest bxtch, I gave her a very very disgusted look and said “no. my dad owns a restaurant”.. and sounded like a Rich Family Bxtch!

Anyway, all this was obviously bullshxt and then she said “oh, but I see a man in your parents’ salon all the time” – where I instantly gave her an even dirtier look and said “wellll, my mum hires workers”. Fullstop, even said. She couldn’t even say any more because her nail salon was so small (she was the only one working) and she couldn’t call me bullshxt cause the other nail salon I claimed I owned does actually exist and is quite big!

After she had done the arcylic extension and coating on G’s nails, a customer came in claiming she has an appointment and she’s on her lunch break at the moment. The nail technician immediately asked us to wait for half an hour for her to finish the other customer’s nails before she completes G’s nails…. she was already half way through it! How rude to ask customers to sit around for half an hour??? She should have better time management and have told us that she had an appointment at a particular time earlier rather than bullshxting to us that they have two nail technicians and that it was okay for us to sit around and get our nails done. We were already in the salon for 2.5 hours at that time!

G, obviously angry said she didn’t want to wait, but me, understanding the time limitations of a lunch break, I told G we could just go have lunch, and come back to finish her nails after half an hour. We were so angry.

Anyway, we got back to the salon half an hour later and G’s design completed without too much of a diasaster. She was pretty satisfied with the art, yet I was still very devastated about mine.

We went to let our anger out on pokie machines after that, won half our nail art money back, and went home. I actually sat at home, adding crystals and diamonte to each nail – which is why the design doesn’t look too bad at the moment.

I’ve had a horrible nail experience today, which reminds me of the Angelah Johnson joke about Vietnamese Nail Technicians.

So for those who have following my twitter, would know that my assessments and stress are never ending. This is the one and only thing that can hold me up, and keep me walking for the whole day….

Really nice nails there! I know what you mean about the Vietnamese nail technicians. I've had similar experience but for me it was getting my hair cut. They didn't know I was Vietnamese as well so they started chatting about me. I mean seriously, I didn't even do anything yet they cuss me =_= that's why I don't really like going to hair/nail salons that are run by Vietnamese people. I never have a good experience there. Not saying that all are like that but the ones that I been to. So if I'm going to get my nails done I would probably ask someone that I know, because then I can at least have a nicer environment to be in. Thanks for sharing your experience :D good to know I'm not the only one feeling like this. xxx

hahahaha… it must have been annoying at the time, but reading this makes me laugh! i hate hate HATE how people would just speak in their own language while someone else is there and it is very obvious that they are talking about the other person. i have lost count as to how many nail salons have incompetent nail artists who cant even do a simple acrylic (you know when they end up really thick that you cant pick anything up with ur nails) – and they are mostly vietnamese who can hardly speak english. if you decide to have your own nail salon, i will drop by and visit :)
