Deco! Lots and lots of deco!! DIY skinny distressed jeans!
July 5, 2009
I’ve been super super super into deco lately! Everywhere I look, I see something I think is potentially “deco-rable”!! I’m about to deco my boy’s laptop!!!! (Okay, he just gave me the biggest dirty cause I pulled a very very cheeky grin when I was typing this)……..heee hee heee ^_^”
I couldn’t sleep last night for some particular reason, so I stayed up on Etsy ’til 7.30 in the morning! Can you believe it? Ebaying and Etsying…. I love handmade things now! They just look gorgeousss!! I was never really into making things.. especially clothes! But lately, I’ve been altering all my clothes to make them look a little more edgyyyy! It’s so so so fun!
Here are the couple things I’ve made in the past few days!
I love love love this clip!! It looks like a baby’s headband!
And no, I’m not selling these bows! I’ll leave that for Etsy and the kawaii Ekimura! Maybe I will in the future, when I am really really poor, hahah! I also won’t be making a tutorial on how to make these, otherwise I’ll be taking all of Eki’s customers away! haha!
Here’s what it looks like on me
And YESSSSS!!!! I did my regrowths! But more on that later!
More bows first!
Haha, I even put my fallen off a Burberry button on this bow! I attached a pin to the back of it so I can wear it on my clothes. I love it! Oh, and the Burberry button is from one of my jackets, but it fell off.. or it was a spare button? I don’t remember. Probably fell off… haha! BUT it’s been lying around doing nothing… so I thought… “Why Not?”
I was so happy with my creations that today, I went to the bead store to try and find some more jewellery findings (clasps, hooks, etc.) and studs to accessorise my clothes! I didn’t find any studs but I found heaps and heaps of Swarovski crystals! They were suuuuuuuper gorgeous!!!
I’ve been lemming them after I saw these on DSK’s store!!! But could never everrrrr decide which one I wanted. So today, after spending a little too long in the shop, I ended up purchasing some crystals and blinged up my lovely Tombas Sabo bracelet. It looks so so yummy now!
Rememeber, I do not sell these! If you want to purchase any earrings, bracelets or necklaces with these crystals, please visit DSK jewellery!
My daily wrist accessories! haha! How heavy… I made the dangley earrings with the heart crystals too but I forgot to take a closer photo!
I love all the bling I’ve made. I bought heaps of mobile strings and a few ring findings to deco as well! I can’t wait! I’ll make sure I post the finished products! I wanted to thank Stephanie from DSK for inspiring me to make these cute accessories! I know you’re not the only one who makes these but you’re one talented and gorgeous girl!!! ♥♥♥♥
And here’s a picture of my iPhone as I think we’ve all seen before…
You guys might or might not have realised, but my phone covers endlessly changing cause my phones always in my bag and decorations are always falling off! So I’m always adding new bling on it! haha
Same goes with my camera! I added the bow on yesterday cause a big chunk of deco fell off cause shoving it into my case too roughly!
I know the quality of this photo is really shxt but I couldn’t take a photo of my camera on my camera!!!
So the picture was taken with my bad-shxt-gay quality camera on my iPhone (3G) not 3GS! I added a border on this photo compensate for the crappy quality. hahaha!!

DIY from FAT jeans to SKINNY jeans
And as you guys have seen on my twitter (and if you haven’t, you need to add me!!!), I’ve been totally lovin’ ripped/distressed/torn jeans lately! They are like totally the next big thing! So last week, I pulled out a pair of baggy jeans I hadn’t worn in two or three years and altered them to make them skinny, then ripped them to make the distressed look!! It’s so simple!
All you need are a pair of scissors, a sewing machine and some pins! Oh, and ofcourse a pair of jeans…
To alter your baggy (or non-skinny) jeans, you simply flip them inside out. Throw them on! And then pin the inner seam and outer seam to fit your legs.
Take out your sewing machine and sew along the pins! Once you’re done, flip the jeans back around and try them on! If it feels uneven, you’ll have to undo the leg that feels tighter or skinny and redo that leg! Once it all fits, cut off the excess material and you’re done!
Congratulations, you’ve just turned yourself into a star (*)
Thats’s the MSN emoticon shortcut for a star. Yes, I’ve used MSN since I was 13 haha!
DIY Distressed/Torn/Ripped Denim
So now that you’ve turned into a star, we want you to look a little more trendy, a little more edgey and fashionable. Follow the chaigyaru trend! haha!
To get the distressed denim look, you’ll be needing just two or three things! A pair of denim shorts, jeans or skirt, scissors, and tweezers/sandpaper/brickwall (whichever one comes in handy!)
First, you’ll want to find where you want your rips! For a natural look, you’ll go for the thigh area, knee area and bum cheeeks area!! It’s rare to wear out the lower part of your jeans, think about it!! Mark the areas you want distress.
Next, you’ll want to fold your denim in half and using your scissor, snip a small hole at where your rip starts.
*snip
Then rip the hole along your marked line. You should have gotten your ripped line now. Then do the same with all the other marked lines you’ve made.
When you’re done, flip your shorts (around (we’ll assume you’re using a pair of shorts for tutorial’s sake), just as we did in the DIY skinny jeans tutorial above. Because denim is made of lots and lots of stitching, you’ll see that these are what creates the frays on distressed jeans!
Now, if you’re using the tweezer, you’ll want to tweeze out rows and rows of stitches from the outside of the rip. This will enlarge the hole you made earlier but filling it up with frays so that it looks more natural, rather than a solid straight rip! Do this to all of the rips you’ve made!
If you’re using the sandpaper or brickwall (these have the same effect), you’ll want to rub material surrounding your rip against the rough side of the sandpaper or brickwall. Using this method would thin out your denim, giving your shorts the most natural worn-out/distressed look! Rub rub rub against the rough surface until you’ve achieved your desired rip!
Here’s my DIY distressed shorts! I prefer using bleached/light coloured denim as it always give the best results!
Sometimes, pockets get in the way of making the holes look good. So you can always sew or velcro your pockets away from the hole, or mark your holes away from the pockets!
Don’t forget to rip the pockets too! The back pockets look super cute distressed!
I didn’t take a photo of my other pair of ripped jeans, but what I did was cut up one of the back pockets and flipped around and ironed it down. I think it makes pair of jeans a lot less boring!! If you like, you could even stud the back pockets like these:

I’m not a big fan of wearing jeans and so ever since I’ve started accessorising my jeans, I’ve found they are much much more wearable!!! Forget the original classic and boring black bootcut jeans!!! Alter your jeans and look like a STARRRRRRR(*)!!
I’ll be back with a hair dye/bleach/regrowths tutorial!
*muacks!
